I'll just never understand this band's appeal. Reading them recently comment/complain about how they wish the modern appreciation for emo led to commercial success for them 20 years ago blows my mind because emo was literally never more popular than it was when they were at their height but they weren't and literally have never been an emo band. Pop punk (with the large emphasis on POP) is not emo and never has been.

That has more to do with "emo" being a catch all term for most people, that applies to anything from American Football to Asking Alexandria and everything inbetween.

the only people who want to make an actual distinction are more fussy than people who just listen to whatever is in the top 50.

"This Is Why's primary flaw is that it feels thematically disjointed."

"That dichotomy between the visceral and the lackadaisical defines This Is Why instead of its value as a snapshot of this decade's global chaos"

could this maybe somehow be connected to the simultaneous chaos and idleness that defined the early part of many peoples' decade???????

I don't think it's fair to credit uniformly bad and lifeless lyrics to "but it's a product of society man"

The world is just so fucked up that they couldn't focus on writing comprehensible lyrics I guess
