The band sounded good for sure but if a chorus is sung it's super fucking lazy to just scream it.

It's cause Anders can't sing.

I still laugh at someone's comment from years ago that they constructed Anders clean singing parts from the whiny exhales at the end of his screams 😂

Lol yeah those things are literally the most annoying thing I have ever heard in any vocal department, super distracting and stupid

I'm also willing to bet Anders just can't sing live the way he does in the studio lol

Years ago he probably could've but over time he's probably losing the ability to sound as crisp. Happens to a lot of vocalists really, just aging in general. Granted, I can't say much as I have not seen these guys live and probably never will

honestly I feel like The Jester Race was Anders peak vocals. they just had a certain... grit? that seems to have been lost somewhere in the 00s

well yeah, like singers from emo bands. A supposed metalhead that makes sounding "vulnerable" his whole schtick is sure going to only piss people off

I like his sound in TJR but I think whoracle/colony are his strongest efforts, especially colony

true. honestly, most of the solos on this album are excellent. might even go as far as to say this is their best soloing since Clayman.

Agree, they sound so unique as far as growls go. I think he mostly lost the ability to do that style though (I know he can/does still bring out growls here and there live but they sound a lot different than the TJR/Whoracle era)

Those types of vocals can have a dramatic affect on your chords based on what I've read on the topic. That said the change in his vocals over just a few years feels pretty dramatic.
