This is easily their best album. I don't know why Black Rose Immortal gets so much love, though. It's definitely the worst on the album (still good of course). The best song is Advent by a long shot. One of the best songs ever written. To Bid You Farewell is the next best. This is definitely the most underrated album in the Opeth catalogue. It features some of their best guitar and bass work to date.

i still have yet to get an album by these guys, but they are very interesting to me, and one of my fav tracks that i have heard is The Grand Conjuration. they remind me of Tool in a lot of ways.
Still, i dont mind long songs, but i would prefer more songs than this and not cared about length.

To say an Opeth song is the 'worst' on an album isn't exactly the best word choice. When you're talking about this band it's more about which song is slightly less amazing than the rest of them.
As for the album, any perceived monotony is probably due to the lack of any instrumentals or tracks radically different in format or length to break up the 10+ minute tracks. This may be why I like Orchid better.

Orchid's good, but I feel this album is slightly more developed.

orchid FTW...This is good too...I think for your least favorite albums for Opeth you should use words like very good, or less awesome. Worst is just too harsh for any album by the gods of Opeth.

For some damn reason I just don't dig this album or Orchid. I much prefer Still Life and Blackwater Park and anything after Morningrise. I want to love it but it's just......meh.

This album is Opeth's best in my eyes, Akerfeldt's vocals are different (in a good way) and I just think the songwriting on every track here is much better than anything Opeth has done since. Plus, "Advent" and "To Bid You Farewell" are incredible.
