The remaster is very crisp and clean. Definitely am enjoying it.
This album feels like it could have been written yesterday. It never gets old.

Early in the morning, probably.

Damn it truly sounds crispier than ever. Needs a closer inspection with my best sound system, but it truly sounds like another Opeth five piece now.

They have gotten rid off the muddiness in this album whitout messing up the organic sound. A rare kind of remaster to work this well. The album was sublime even before this trestment but now it can really shine. Another Opeth five confirmed.

not like i'll be able to hear a difference from my little bluetooth speaker, but i think i'll recheck this at work sometimes this week.

plot twist i listened to it today and i still dislike the compositional style here lol. every track is like a bunch of vignettes stitched together into ten minute songs but with no transitions between them; it's better than orchid but it's still really aggravating to listen to.

"every track is like a bunch of vignettes stitched together into ten minute songs"
lol this is literally every Opeth album (although the edges are defs particularly jagged on this one). smoother transitions on MAYH/Still Life onwards don't make the songwriting any less stodgy - always thought that was part of their core appeal

"lol this is literally every Opeth album"
no after this it just becomes regular prog, they start repeating sections and tracks become much more individual as they become shorter and wander less.

later stuff might repeat individual sections across whole songs more, but clunky cut/paste songwriting still runs through way more opeth songs than not, mainly because the sections in question typically go on forever and are made up of infinitely repeating riffs and
would argue that later stuff really feels its (still heavily engorged!) length far more than this - this album's tendency to go through the entire alphabet rather than bringing back section A/B/C etc. feels far less turgid in the long run
