This album is excellent! I listened to it so many times when i was a teenager.. and I still enjoy it a lot. The songs are shorter and more accesible than on their previous albums, but the details are more polished. I never really liked Youthanasia, though, and I stopped listening to Megadeth after Criptic Writings, until their last album, Endgame, which is great too.

It may not been the most focused thrash type of album for megadeth. But i must say theirs a lot of good songs on this record for the sake of doing something progressive as this.

Just like when Metallica released the famous Black Album, detractors of Megadeth screamed "sellout" after the release of the album. But there is none of that here.
The review is good, except for this little bit. I like the album but if there's one thing this album proves it's that Megadeth did sell out. Symphony of Destruction (probably the most popular single from the album) clearly was going for a more mainstream accessable sound, which is exactly what Metallica got panned for when they released the Black Album.
Anyway, Countdown to Extinction is a good album. I still think Rust in Peace is a better album. But, in my opinion, like all Megadeth albums there are a few tracks that I think bring the album down. Sweating Bullets is pure crap, as were a few of the other songs in the middle were fillers too.
great album, too bad its destroyed by Black
My thoughts exactly.
