It pains me because they can write a ballad better than most of their contemporaries, but here it just feels like they got lazy and made a whole bunch of soft, mid-paced songs that sound like nothing.
Still better than half the stuff that Breaking Benjamin has ever released though so that’s a plus.

Mix is spotty in this one. However, I actually really enjoy the progressive elements to the album. I only dabble in bass playing and would not consider myself a musician, so perhaps that affects my ignorance of the repetitive rifts you mention. I also enjoy DH’s softer side so that also may skew my opinion. Still, “Defense Mechanism,” “Devotion,” “Revolution,” “Freedom is Dead,” “Master,” and “Sleepwalker” go hard.
