This really sounds way better. Wasn't bothered by the original (admittedly rather childish) artwork, though.

Typically, album remixes don't have a clear vision in mind and remasters are usually just an excuse to pump up the loudness.
I think Spiritual Black Dimensions would benefit from a similar remix, it's even more claustrophobic than PEM.

I remembering listening to this album not long ago, much better than I remember. This remaster oughta be quite a treat.
That said, Dimmu are some lazy motherfuckers compared to most other bands, one new album every eight years or so. Lol

I bought this like the day it was released. But it's very plausible that I didn't have the sound system to notice production issues.

Ha same and played it endlessly. Still got the cd as I can’t throw away my old cds. Always thought of it as a drums album with Nick Barker front and centre, but much prefer this mix

It was a good era.
Now having actually heard this I can confirm it is a good remaster. The drums could be louder.

I prefer how Vortex's vocals stood out more on the original, but otherwise this is perfect.

Shagrath's vocals in Puritania sound kinda wonky now

Ah crap, forgot to comment on this. First of all, thanks Willie for doing the Lord's work. I'm glad this got a review.
And secondly: y'all need to blast this loud and soon!

The sonic soundscape... are there other kinds of soundscapes?

I can’t tell what they changed besides fucking all of the levels up and completely annihilating the atmosphere of the album.
The 2001 version had one of the best producers in the entire genre. Meanwhile, whoever remixed this seems to be suffering from hearing loss.

I never thought the original was too difficult to get through. Some things I appreciate about this for sure, but others I don’t. Notably they lower the guitars in the mix of Kings and it makes the riffs sound a lot weaker.
Inversely the synths and orchestral segments sound fantastic.
Puritania sounds very different here, some of Shagrath’s vox sounded better when they were buried in the mix lol, and I’m don’t think doubling down on the orchestral parts works for the track.
