The Mars Volta have released their very own chuckles and Mr. Squeezy

Yo lol

Drummer is good but comparing it to Pridgen's stuff is a disservice......

Apples and oranges. Pridgen’s style wouldn’t exactly fit this style, would it? Lol

Also,

‘Noctourniquet is a masterpiece compared to this. They should've released this album under another name. At least Noctourniquet does sound like TMV, this doesn't sound like them, at all.’ (2)

Yeah and the hilarious thing about that is they decided to give it the ol’ s/t treatment, which markets it like ‘yep, this is a TMV album’… except it doesn’t do much to sound like it.

And yeah Amps is their best

ok... listened to this so many times already.

What bothers me the most is that they KNOW how to make mellow songs (look at Octahedron, Noctourniquet and some moments on the first albums). But most of these songs sound so thin, forgetable and bland. It hurts to see Willy Quinones habilities thrown to the corner. Noctourniquet in all of its electronic drumming stuff had some really creative moments.

In the mellow side this is far from Octahedron, but it's great nontheless. There's like 3 or 4 tracks I could skip here, but it's surely nowhere near a 1 or 1,5...

3rd 1/5 this year, probably should offer out more (generally) if I’m honest, too conservative

It was a real struggle to get through this. There’s such a lack of interesting melodies or compositions. I have no problem with their mellower songs, but stuff like ‘Flash burns from flash backs’ just has nothing to it. I feel absolutely nothing listening to most of this.
