3 tracks in. None of these songs are bad but they're 100% alienating their old fanbase. It's a shame to see. Get ready to hear about TMV getting placed on every cookie-cutter fest from here to kingdom come for the next few years I guess.

This album is so weird. Most of it is perfectly pleasant listening but it slips out of my mind right after hearing it. It’s one of the most unmemorable albums I’ve heard

I've never thought his voice was particularly "good" so he's the least of my issues here.

I absolutely love his singing on their earlier albums. And idk if the performance is bad except for a few moments, but I don’t like the production on the vocals for sure

Exactly my feelings as well. Mars Volta was one of my biggest jams during high school/early university years, but I'm not feeling this album. At all.

I was expecting a disaster, but it's not bad. . . just. . . it's very forgettable

The album is nice for what it is without comparing it to previous works, which is very hard tbh.

"inb4 RHCP direct support tour"
The one time I saw them was 17 years ago when they opened for RHCP. They started their set with a forgettable and unending jam, which eventually fomented mockery from the crowd. Saw groups of people dancing like psychedelic belly dancers as others drunkenly booed. Was a pretty good time actually, lots of laughs, but RHCP was unhappy with our punitive behavior and gave us a shortened encore as consequence.
So yeah, fuck the mars volta.

I still read people who said that "he can't sing shit". I disagree. I don't know about the live performances but in the studio he's pretty great.

considering omar played on the album RHCP were touring, flea and john play on multiple TMV albums... john and omar play on each others solo efforts, and they were all good friends making music together in LA at the time... i can understand why they'd be bummed out at the frat boy types that would attend a RHCP tour circa 2006, booing their friends band.
i wrote off RHCP after Californiacation came out, your story makes me like them a bit more.

Need to listen to this more but I already like it.
Love the mellow side of TMV.
I also love seeing people hating this I remember these kind of opinions with Octahedron, which ended up being my favorite TMV record.
The only thing I don't like is the vocals production.

I'm listening to this having listened to De-Loused exactly 3 times like 15 years ago, so I realize I don't have the level of investment as you all. But I like it! And it's definitely well made, if a bit subdued.
