Having listened this album in its entirety for 3 times I'm confident in saying that this is Mars Volta's worst record; having said that, this is, by no means, a bad record.
I think that the 1st Half is better, but there are some bangers on the 2nd half, like 'Equus 3' and 'The Requisition".
Production is incredible through and through though.
I'm curious about how it will evolve for me in the next few weeks/months.

This album is so disjointed, songs do not flow at all. Graveyard Love ends abruptly, which doesn't make sense leading into the next song, it's like they fucked up.
There are some good tunes, but overall it's a mess.

yeah this is bland as hell and yet also mildly irritating due to a crooning Cedric, quite the accomplishment
and no, not because 'it's different' but because this band aren't playing to their strengths anymore, subtlety and restraint is certainly not their forte. We learnt that with Octo (although at least that's listenable). Bedlam was a mess with godawful brick-walled production, but still (sometimes) a fun one. Noct had a few interesting 'arty' cuts
This is just the ultimate shit-heap combination of stripped-back monotony with grating vocals that take centre stage by overpowering what little else is present

idk if his voice is completely shot or he's attempting to do something that never suited him... I think maybe both can be true?
I'm not even sure they're necessarily going for 'understatement' here despite the overwhelming relaxed 'vibe' and less intrusive instrumentation, regardless the combination paired with Cedric's unpalatable tone is rather off-putting indeed
