'current comments about this are exactly where i was the first couple of times i heard the album, but then something clicked in me after the 5 or 6th spin where i capitulated to the lunacy.'
damn that's some perseverance, I'm not sure whether to congratulate or pity you, lol

I loved Muse's first three albums back in the day, but I didn't like BH&R aside from a handful of songs (the singles mostly). I really, really enjoyed The Resistance though. Haven't come close to liking an album since...
Is this for me?

The ballads here are some of the best moments though
Gloriously dumb, the album is a lot of fun

After the first single and now listening to this I think this is the most disappointed I've been with Muse.
My favourite band growing up its painful to see where they've ended up.

@demon
The things you do to review albums lol. But it did pay off, because I saw the album in a positive light. If you give it time to settle, there’s a really fun album to be heard. And don’t get me wrong, I’ve been open in saying it’s a bad enjoyment; I can understand people hating this, because on the surface it’s presented that way, but I’m terms of mindless enjoyment it excels

Bagged some tickets for their show next year so I'll definitely give it a spin! Expectations are quite low, not gonna lie, but the emphasis on heavier riffs piques my interest. Could be good fun! Haven't really listened to these much since The Resistance.

Listened to most of it... and I can agree with OP. The worst part of their "last" albums (resistance and onwards) is how bland they were. Outside of 2-3 good songs, nothing stood out and nothing much interesting was going on.
This is not bland. The songwriting is all over the place, sometimes even inside of the same song. But there's a lot of fun/nice stuff going on that makes me want to listen to it. Just don't take it seriously.

'The ballads here are some of the best moments though'
sort of, maybe idk - I like the fact Bellamy actually attempted to use his 'real' (ish) voice on occasion (like in Ghosts) rather than relying on overbearing effects / uninteresting production 'tricks'
'we are fucking fucked is just a muse mad-lib/a sixth former’s first rock song'
yeah but it amused me, so it gets an additional point for being shamefully entertaining (giving it one point).
I will probably have to give this another once through just to confirm my thoughts

Compliance is so catchy.

I don't see the link between both songs tbh
Dead Inside is more like a sequel to Madness to me (with Dick Down being part 3 lmao)

I actually like Madness quite a bit tbh
Dig Down is an obvious rip off/sequel though
Also, Euphoria is dangerously close to Time Is Running Out, it's pretty much 1:1 at some points, regarding the pre chorus and vocal melodies in general

Reapers was decent from memory, might be the last legitimately good Muse song
I remember The Globalist being kind of cool... maybe? Hazy memories here. I think it was at least trying something new for the band.

legitimately do not even remember which track Verona is - must've entered self-preservation comatose during that segment of the album
I am intrigued

I’m shocked. Used to be a huge fan and have seen them many times before 2006 when they dropped Black Holes. They’re from up the road from me in Devon and Matt Bellamy’s musical scores are still framed across Exeter College where he and I went to. Anddd a good friend of mine used to be the ex-drummer of Muse before they took on the name - he went off to get a ‘proper’ job and have a family and sadly missed a bit of an opportunity there! I still give him hell about it, definitely doesn’t appreciate it ha! Back to the album - it is hands down their best work since 2006. Very much excited to see them tour with Royal Blood.
