Went down a huge mountain goats binge yesterday seeing that Jenny was coming soon. I LOVED this album and still am listening to it. Hoping the new one can match this quality.

@Kolton never got into beat the champ, might need to revisit. But Goths and This are awesome. Dragons was kinda meh. Knives and Dark were hit or miss ... should have consolidated them into a singe solid album.

So I have always loved that single song. Just havnt spent much time with the full album. Sunset Tree will always be my favorite mountain goats work so interesting that you draw that comparison.

Lots of nice horns and strings in the new single. Really excited for the sound, excited to dive into the lyrics/theme more. optimistic.

I have very mixed feelings on the new one so far. Guess I was hoping for something rawer as far as it being a sequel to AHWT, instead it’s one of the most “sophisticated” and sterile-sounding things Darnielle has ever released. Definitely a step back after this.

^ thats a huge bummer to hear, but I am not surprised in the slightest since I wasn't a big fan of any of the singles for it.
Bleed Out is my favorite release from TMG since at least Goths. Dragons was probably my least favorite release from them ever, so I am hoping this isn't a repeat of the good album/bad album trend..

I’ll try it a few more times, I might just not be in the mood for it but I’m not really a fan of the sound it has for Darnielle. There are a few very good songs though.
