I love sspu’s first four albums but never checked out widows weeds for some reason. I think a lot of the negative reception turned me off. I decided to give this a listen and bloody hell this is good. Top notch song writing, god tier production. It’s flat out beautiful in places. Could do without the interludes but I’m loving the hell out of this.

Widow's Weeds is better than this by a lot and a great album if you dig Carnavas and Swoon in particular

Definitely their horniest album lel, quite the chill vibes, this is their softer sounding LP for sure. Brian's hardly belting at all on the record, which (to me) is a welcome change, his middle register is where his voice shines most imho

Very cohesive record, maybe their best flowing tracklist yet

Still not sold on Empty Nest. Hidden Moon grew on me a little, it's like Gun-Shy Sunshine upbeat brother

Damn this album is great. As much as the first half is good, I think the second half is even better. System Error, We won't come out and stay down are bangers

Every time I listen to this my opinion fluctuates. Sometimes I appreciate the layering and soundscapes a lot and sometimes I'm just bored. It's definitely more interesting than Widow's Weeds in terms of sounds explored but some songs just go on and on and they grate on my nerves. I can really do without the recurring interlude tbh.

This is probably a steamy take but I think Carnavus is their most boring album. I like the arthouse direction they've gone in, even if it doesn't always work on every song. Swoon is the peak.

Alone on a Hill is awesome.

I need to revisit the rest of their discog, because everyone seems to think this isn't their best.

Album is still amazing. Such a great combination of eerie/chilling and effortlessly catchy.
