Just bumped my rating a few decimal points, think I underestimated The Ladder in my review (ironic since it seems like the most openly accessible thing here). Fantastic album.

Sweet review and the summary is on point.
The Ladder is the one that impressed me the most on a first impressions level. It's more of the same for sure but the confidence behind the performance is so good, I feared it was going to be another standard midtempo late-'psycho affair, but the energy behind it feels so "hungry" for every instrument, I love it.
But yeah the main offering comes in the second "half". Mona Lisa/Azrael is some beautiful KC heritage as DDD said, and the first part with the string-like stuff has almost a Taifun feel to it. The freaky noodling is maybe a little too much but who cares, plus the final reprise is majestic.
Chariot of the Sun initially left me a bit underwhelmed because it felt like "N.O.X. but short" but on a second listen I already like it a lot more. The cleaner solos left and right in the middle part are kind of... pretty? Really nice vibe there, feels like ~ shiny morning dew ~ or something lmao. Got to consider too that it was a background for a dance exhbition.
Truly a band ever

It would've been great to have Chariot followed by another tune, maybe like another in the same vein as The Ladder to kind of round the whole thing out, but the track sequencing feels fresh to me ending on a big ass instrumental (even though it could've offered a bit more in the back half of the tune)

This record needs a little more love. Mona Lisa for song of the year?

What if these dudes pumped out five more records over the next five or six years and they all are as consistent as their last dozen albums.....jesus

Man I wish the last tune was a little stronger but this is still just so good from start to finish

That first riff on the Ladder is one of the best riffs of the year

Can’t even decide what their top 5 best albums are. They’re all so different yet most are equally stellar

me 5 years ago lmao. They've even dropped two Roadworks in 2018 and the The Light Fantastic compilation in 2019 (they've put it on Bandcamp btw!)

Hoping for 5 or 6 tunes in similar fashion to the Ladder on here. Hoping to hear a bit more songwriting on this one instead of the extended jam

They posted a snippet of the single, coming May 5th
It has a bit of an old school feel to it, it reminds me of the kind of stuff you can find digging outside of main albums tracklists
