"new Arch Enemy is better than this and it's not even close"

I mean yeah its no contest but they are also pretty different. I know some people started pitting them against each other (including me) but the new AE is leaning more into like epic territory which brings some nice new facets to their sound. This is firmly placed on trodden mdm ground.

"this on the other hand feels like 70% DT B-sides, 30% IF B-sides from 20-25 years ago"

I don't know how this could possibly be construed as a negative, especially that second bit

A mediocre 2022 gothenburg album proves that?

No... Anders has been proving that himself for years. His growls were pretty good, but as soon as he started trying to do anything else, he was pretty bad.

Like, Mikael is fine here -- certainly doesn't detract from the experience -- but I keep wondering what this would sound like if it had Late 90's/Early 00's Friden on vocals instead. He had a certain energy to his delivery back then that could've added an extra punch to some of the stuff on here.

The review summary is a stretch. This is decent but does nothing extraordinary like DT or IF have done.

This is good. I don't mind that it doesn't do anything particularly out of the box, this is just the kind of melodeath I want.

Anders harsh vocals have more character and variety than stanne's. Stanne is kinda samey. And I get people not liking Anders. That's just my take on it

Stanne's cleans are definitely better though. But that's probably due to the fact that he stays within his range whereas Anders tries too hard to do stuff that isnt within his ability

I think that's the crux of the issue right there. Stanne stays within his range and kills it. Anders tries to overshoot and can often miss. I appreciate the ambition, but sometimes you gotta know when to hold back.

If we're talking current, yeah Mikael absolutely demolishes Anders to an insane degree. If we include the full body of their work though, they both have a pretty wide range of harshes in their arsenal and I'd be hard pressed to pick a favorite. Anders changes his growls dramatically from Skydancer to Clayman, and Mikael changes his vox album to album in the run of Lunar Strain through The Gallery. They both had extremely good low growls and high screams, and at their peaks I'd probably take both of them over practically any melodeath vocalist from any era.
