Review Summary: Get in

Hailing from some interstellar English launch pad comes death metal duo Body Asphyxiation Science, whose main musical currency rests between the wandering progressive landscapes of Blood Incantation and the safety of old-school death gurgling a la Tomb Mold, Nile or a million other lazy death metal references. I digress, Gravitational Blood Art’s main play relies on a punch of riff and a verbiage around musical restraint while creating a light, sci-fi atmosphere to which the music swells. I mean, the drums don’t just blast from one end of this fifteen minute to the void which it quickly rests, nor do the riffs spiral into a frenzied mess of dissonant time signatures or unintelligible mayhem. No, there is groove and rest, ample space for cavernous growls to snap off before a lurching, marching riff takes over (see: “Gravitational Blood Art”) and there’s also a clear cut passage for riffs galore to cut over the furor of bass, drums and cough drop inducing roars. The riffs are even tasteful (“DNA Pool”) and tie in well with the tracks both past and future. “Human Structure”, the EP’s closing track continues in much of the same vein as the compositions before it, but in comparison is more melodic than the tracks that preclude it. For all the promise emulating visionaries like Blood Incantation could offer a fledgling, spacey death metal band, there’s something not quite explorative enough on Gravitational Blood Art. Body Asphyxiation Science is simply testing the boosters on their rocket—they’ll need a lot more to get to the dizzying heights.

Sometimes these single para reviews really make sense to do.

Sounds like a pretty solid little release. Will check. Cover art instantly had me thinking of Blood Incantation. A little shamelessly similar tbh lol. Good review

"Yikes, take the reverb on the vocals back about 12 notches, boiz"

the reverb is definitely extreme. Dial that back to like 15% wet and this is an easy 3.5 if not higher

A cosmic death album is still fresher than a black metal band screaming about death so…comparatively yes, this is still somewhat original. It could be Cannibal Corpse level lyrical content.

yeah basically take the number of cosmic dm albums that drop each year, multiple by 5, and that's how many blackgaze albums there are each year

All I’m saying is if that’s the hill you want to die on the least you could do is make sure you’ve landed on the correct hill.

Even the artwork is super original, never thought about that Blood Incantation cover with a literal alien or anything like that, not even once!
