First half was a snoozefest, but 49ers look better. Kelce being pissed at Reid was funny.
Pretty underwhelming performance by Usher tbh, he was gassed and there was so much backtrack reliance. His mic was too quiet.

I'd be more displeased if the Lions made it just to lose tbh

It was a good game, but man if only the 49ers didn't effectively give up 7 points with that muffed punt. Then the missed XP (which in a tied game was significant).
The 49ers were all over the Chiefs in the first half yet they never got away from them, it felt like they should've been leading by more at HT for sure. No points off the two turnovers. Chiefs defence admittedly made some big stops and kept them alive when they were doing nothing on offence.
Missed opportunities aside, the Chiefs are never dead. You give Mahomes a chance to win the game and he invariable takes it, especially when it counts. At least the 49ers pushed them all the way for the sheer spectacle. Classic game

Someone give Spags his flowers
Man is arguably the greatest asset to KC in these Superbowl winning years.

Did you guys see Taylor Swift was at the Super Bowl???

"Someone give Spags his flowers"
fuck yeah mars
had the biggest grin on my face on (i think it was) the last niners third down of the game when spags brought the house and the completely unblocked blitzing db batted the ball down in purdy's face. besides belichick he's gotta be the goat defensive coach.
i totally get people being sick of mahomes, kelce etc. but spags made me a fan for like with that 07 giants run. he's like the only crazy aggressive dc i can think of who doesn't consistently get burned in big moments.

Spags adapts to his players and the flow of the game masterfully. Having such a lockdown secondary this year let him gamble more frequently in clutch time because he had confidence in his corners making the stop/holding coverage firm.
This was the most vulnerable the KC offense has ever looked, but that defense was lethal year-long. If they can retain a lot of that talent + find a bona fide WR1, they could become even more dangerous, which is a scary thought lol

It helps that Spags did poorly as a HC and ever since hasn't gotten any HC looks from other teams. No matter what changes, KC always has Spags leading the defense; that consistency and stability are definitely a massive asset.
Does make me wonder though if maybe he just genuinely prefers the chess match of being a coordinator going against the opposing coordinator rather than trying to be a HC. Like there has never been a leak/pushed story about him trying to get another chance, think he's found his comfort zone.

If you had told Saints fans after 2012 this dude would be the defensive coordinator of a dynasty you would have been drunkenly laughed outta bourbon street.
|
| |
yeah it has to be because he's just happy coaching defense and nothing else, and i can't blame him, dude's got the perfect setup with reid coaching the offense, and then even when one side of the ball is struggling you have mahomes being the tide that lifts all boats
also gotta say, as soon as i saw shanahan bring out his kicker in OT on 4th & 4 from the nine yard line i knew the game was over. there was no way on earth mahomes was not scoring a TD on the next drive having all four downs at his disposal and no clock to worry about. reid and mahomes is just an inevitable combo... and even if the niners offense didn't get a first down they would've at least started the chiefs deep in their own territory
