“A huge part of the review is guy bashing Tilian for allegations that have nothing to do with the album.”

It’s pretty obvious people are only hating this because of Tilian

I don't think this is a 1.5 because of allegations. I think it's a 1.5 because I sadly listened to it. . . . .

Yeah, the album is awful imo, regardless of the allegations. I was never a fan of DGD in the first place, but at this point, they've completely stalled out creatively. This was a chore to listen to

I actually quite liked them at a time, but the longer I dove into the discog, the more it felt like they were far too comfortable in their style. That kind of familiarity can absolutely be appreciated; it's good to know there's a band to rely upon to deliver the same aesthetic year in and year out, and it allows a listener to just relax and enjoy something that (as Johnny said) perfectly panders to their tastes/their vision of DGD's sound. But that same familiarity breeds stagnation, which is where they've been for a while now.

I'm all for fun, but show me a pulse first and then we'll talk. Tilian hate aside, you could argue within reason that there's not much he can do to elevate songs that amount to indistinguishable mush.

Even if you’re the biggest Tillian fan in the world, it’s hard not to notice the band’s sound stagnating. This is basically Artificial selection part 3. Their sound used to vary so much from record to record and they just sound so flat here.

Maybe Tillian leaving will end up being what saves the band.

Kurt arguably had the most limited range of the three eras, but what always have and always will set him apart is his tone and delivery. You can get a taste of it on his solo work; he's got very expressive pipes, and he complimented DGD very well. Prime Craig was good, but then he fell in love with his voice and forgot how to artfully employ it.

Kurt was always a much more nuanced lyricist than Til, Jonny was kind of good at time but at others was pretty nonsensical

"Artificial Selection Part 3" is the perfect way to describe it. Like that album and Afterburner, I find some songs I enjoy, but the rest is just by-the-numbers.

I just started listening to these guys about two years ago and it took me a few months to grow sick of the Tillian era sound. I like the Acceptance Speech or Tides of Man version of Tillian, but I would much prefer the non-existent, kicked-out-of-the-band version of him at this point. And that's before considering his status as a POS sexual deviant.
