I quite liked We Do What We Want, but none of their work after that (this one included) has ever scratched the itch for me.

To me, these guys always sounded like they were on the Silverstein/Hawthorne Heights side of post-hardcore. They've written some solid music, just wish the vocals were better

I adore Silverstein's first two records but Emery is head and shoulders above them. Hawthorne Heights has like 4 or 5 good songs, so that feels disrespectful. Lmao.

Emery has two of the best vocalists in post-hardcore and the songwriting is so much better than their peers.

Emery's musical pursuits are of the highest order. Honestly much more mature and determined than Silverstein.

I don't think they're the best individually but the way they sound together is almost unparalleled, second only to The Receiving End of Sirens (rip)

fantastic lyrics too, that goes a long way

I have yet to figure out if this record is a live session or a studio re-recorded version. I saw the live session on youtube and it blew me away.

I'm pretty sure it was recorded as a live session and then got some post-production in the studio.

Edit: Here's a comment from chorus.fm

"I was lucky enough to hear the “studio” version of this album, and I’m super impressed with how they fixed it up. They’ve cleaned up the drums a ton and they sound incredible, they have added more electric guitars, they have redone all of the acoustics and a lot of the keyboard parts have been remixed, they’ve added a lot of production elements to the vocals and mix of the music, and most importantly they’ve redone all of their vocals which sound awesome. If I heard this version, I would have never known the bones of the record were recorded live. The songs really come to life with lots of energy and a really clear and dynamic master.

For anyone that cares about this sort of thing; they used Spectre mastering for almost all their albums except white line fever, they went back to them for this album and it really shows. I’m really excited for people to hear the final product because I think this is their best work since shallow seas and I think the studio versions of these songs will really bring some people back to the band."

@LightAndGlass

Thank you man, the information you provided was very helpful. I'm very interested in how they made such a great "studio" version.

Not even in the same conversation as Hawthorne or Silverstein

Hawthorne Heights isn't even in the same conversation as Silverstein either. That band has made a career out of one (admittedly great) song.
