I love this band but they will have to bring something new to the table with their next record, they've pretty much been doing the same thing since Vile Luxury.
That said, I'd love to see them.

Nah Alphaville trounces this. Dull sporkification of everything oblique and exciting about that one, easily the pleb choice

‘they've pretty much been doing the same thing since Vile Luxury.‘
wtf?! Seriously weird take, the three albums sound very distinct from one another. And yeah, Alpha is the ALPHA, easy choice. This has ‘we’re now an important band vibe’ and I’m not vibing with it as much. Where’s the fun at? Sure it skronks but they dialled down on the wacky ambition and they were previously one of the few bands in this general realm that could pull that off. I miss that incarnation of their sound tbh

How is this so drastically different from Alphaville? I love them both, but all the stylistic differences that I can point out are somewhat minor.

This likes the sniff of its own farts a little more. Goes for a more ‘atmospheric’ approach and occasionally forgets to be engaging. Takes less risks. Too self-conscious. The bare bones is similar, but the execution is different. And neither album sounds anything like VL, which separated the jazz elements more obviously into distinct parts (not necessarily a positive or a negative).

Yeah I kind of agree about VL to be honest, but Alphaville already had some pretty atmospheric parts. I don't know, this just feels like an Alphaville extension to me.
