That bridge in Dark Night is so so good

ya deeeefinitely disagree on this being frontloaded when blue spade is the top track here for me lol. shit is so beautiful and mournful and has like, pretty much my favorite moment from each member of the band bar jordan (esp since steele wrote its lyrics). an unreal unreal song thats praises i will sing forever. dark night is just a hair below it (in part bc it is easily the worst mixed song here) but its so dope hearing dal on smth that dog's blood-y now. the chorus riff at the end without the vocals overtop it is so satisfying whenever it hits.
if anything the faster songs are the clear weaker cuts for me but i still love every song here and those are integral to the pacing. i am just way more partial to the expansive shit that strides in that new direction

Need to revisit this
First three spins when it came out didn't really stick with me

I owe it to my favorite band ever to try again and see if fourth time is the charm

Honestly, this album is a grower. I thought it was kinda semi-tired dad rock Alexisonfire when I first heard it, but after subsequent listens I have actually grown to really like the album.
I'm still not a huge fan of the production on the album, it feels kinda thin and lacking in dynamics at a few parts, and I could do with just a LITTLE more old-school Alexisonfire vibes instrumentally and ditching some of the more traditional rock riffs (like the chorus of Committed To The Con for an example, which is saved only by Dallas Green's voice), it feels like they almost only used the top 4 strings on the guitar (slight exaggeration but gets my point across) and I feel like they could've done something more interesting.
The album art is horrible though, I agree with that.

i think my biggest complaint w this cycle other than the obv prod/artwork is that they like barely played any of these songs live outside of the singles. dark night of the soul is just begggging to hit the stage

I think the first two tracks are mediocre at best but the rest is great

This is well on its way to being my AOTY. Can't believe how strongly they came back. It honestly feels like running into an old friend after years of losing contact

"After probably 30 or so listens of this album I can safely say this is a very rare case of shitty production making the album BETTER somehow."
honestly... i'm kinda starting to agree???????????????????????????
like it adds a certain hazy ethereal quality to the songs that does a lot to make the album feel unique.
the t/t is a prime example. not sure i'd be a big fan of that one if not for the production
even dark night on the soul which i thought was completely ruined by the production i'm starting to come around on

dark night of the souls prod is only rlly super atrocious in the leadup into the verses. the prod benefits that songs bridge and ending a lot
