Really liking what I'm hearing but damn, the production makes the album trying to sit through

I guess I am part of the minority but their production fits to their sound in my opinion. Yet maybe if they were "improved" I would change my mind

Playing this on my good truck system now, drums hit a LOT harder.

Very disappointed to see this as the best death metal album of 2022 as of June 11. This is a very soft sound with some blast beat drums and occasional cookie monster vocals just to classify it as metal. It is progressive rock or sludge metal at best, with mostly alternative rock vocals and very delicate instrumentals. This will leave you as puzzled as the Skin Tension Omni album, which refuses to go down in ranking merely because of the novelty of the long duration.

Took a few listens for me to get into the soundscape/atmosphere but it's getting better every listen.

DDD isn't wrong, it's a very light/soft sound overall but still has significant intensity behind it. Failry original approach to sonics and songwriting, I think.

Hehe its pasta from pg1 bro.

My real (pasta worthy) thoughts are this is one bloody mess. I guess the guy is too busy making yt videos (and so many different vocals) that forgot to hire the dude with the riffs. Also, why everytime someone tries to steal riffs on dm we call it the new step for dm? Once dm has no riffs, dm dies. This is worse than The Work, and this is coming from an Owls fan (I've got beaten enough). Drums sound bad, but also uninteresting.

That said I've read and also can see this as a grower, if its kinda your thing and put enough effort on it.

Peripety was much better than I remembered.

The drums were also very problematic at times lol

Peripety is solid but they were still forumlatimg their sound, Almanac is where they really nailed it (though this is catching up).

I wasn't sure about this after the first spin, and that comes from someone who has been championing them to death since The Almanac released.

After a few listens I can confirm this is their best material yet. The continue to get better and better at writing songs, even if this album is a tad overlong and occasionally homogenous.

>"[...]these often stray into cringe-adjacent territory and distract from the release’s more brilliant qualities."

I ran into this wall too and I'm starting to blame myself. I often listen to music on two levels -- one for personal enjoyment, and then an overly-conscious level where I wonder what it sounds like to someone who's not a metal fan, and then I cringe at imagining something blasting through my speakers and my wife wondering wtf I'm listening too. Context: she's a pop and 90's fanatic who will never understand my taste lol.

So after a few more listens I actually think, as far as spoken-word segments in metal goes, these are less cringe-inducing than most. There's evidently as much passion put into their concept & storytelling as there is the music itself, so I give them a pass, because for them it's not cliche but part of the whole picture. I get it.

Can't get Silvered Shadows out of my head really. I'm sure it'll get worse as the melodies from the other tracks start to become ear worms.

I mean it flows better than The Work (but I did not like it either, so what the hell). That's fact. I'll give it another spin soon enough. I always give a shot at trying not to be pissed at stuff lol
