Great album. Amazing opener, and sadly nothing thereafter quite lives up to it. But this is some remarkably dense stuff.

dense and dark af. actually so dark that i couldn't see much difference between the tracks, it all melts and blends into one suffocating ride. the atmosphere vaguely reminds me Monotheist, but with guitarwork pushed to the background.
gotta spin it a few more times...

the seasick, off-jazzy hemiola stuff going on in the third track… unffffffff. this one’s a repeat spinner for damn sure.

Yeah, that syncopated section is super tasty, especially when the laments come in

Drummer does an excellent job of bringing this all together. It has that formless feel of MoRT but plenty of groove in there, too.

Their last few didn’t too ad much but this is flooring me the way a few of their older ones did

I've always seen their name floating around stuff I should check out for a while and never really gave 'em a shot.
Really dug what I heard from this and then found the vinyl at a shop near me.
Easy purchase.

this is really, really good. nails the cosmic horror vibe better than most anything else I can think of.
also one of your absolute best reviews, Fernando. cool to see something this inspired can also inspire good criticism. good shit.

After listening via High fidelity audiophile approved devices my verdict is:
The drums and vocals are buried a bit too deep for their own good, some segments feel a bit haphazardly composed and they could’ve expanded upon the dark ambient passages to create something really unforgettable, but as it stands it’s still a compelling voyage into a lovecraftian land of labias and so on

Thanks, dedex ;) Glad you liked it.
Cheers Hyperion, you're too kind. I like to dive into more surrealistic waters and this album allowed me to do just that.

I’m glad the vocals are buried. The best vocals on this album, and his albums in general, are the female cleans anyway. I’m hearing new things every time I replay this. Makes new DsO sound like a joke.

Thought this was mostly pretty good, but the drums kinda killed it for me. Really not a fan of that ultraclean mix at the centre of an otherwise dense af swirl of sound - feels like my head and shoulders are being exposed to all manner of evil astral fuckage in a parallel dimension while my feet are stuck on some guy's meticulously polished basement floor. Impressive performance for sure, but broke the immersion more often than not
Obvs better than the new DsO though lmao

Maybe evil astral fuckage only happens on a meticulously polished basement floor?
Authenticity over Truth.

this is a massive whirlpool of darkness, constant barrage of crazy cosmic shit. too little black metal, too much of the industrial-electronic-ambient shenanigans for me.
