great record great review! I really admire the band's honesty and saying "We want to Dave Grohl this shit". I always admire when a band makes modern hard rock that people who enjoy the prev generations of popular rock music can get into while avoiding being a nostalgia act

That is some nice artwork, saving this one for later.

I am going to continue listening to this until it becomes a top 10 AOTY for me I have decided. I think it has potential. Their instrumentals occasionally make me think of a slightly less chaotic Protest the Hero with extremely dialed back (but still strong) vocals

Good call! Moon Tooth albums are designed to be revisited, I actually didn't like Chromaparagon much the first few times I heard it but it slowly grew over the course of like a year to become an all-time favorite. Crux and this have definitely been a lot more immediate but neither sounded their absolute best on the first listen IMO

With Moon Tooth blowing up the way they are I'm waiting for people to discover my band through the guest solo he played. xD

Phototroph is the type of album to see two frogs sword fighting over a bread crumb at night while finding yourself butt naked in the swamp baked as fuck.

Title track is incredible. After the year I've had this is exactly the song I need to hear to course correct.

Crux grew the most on me and is my favorite but it’s been forever since I revisited Chromaparagon

Naah. First song of theirs I heard was Igneous and I was like, "what is this voodoo witchcraft?!"

"Butt rock vocals suck

This perfectly illustrates how I felt listening to this album

The vocals seriously turned me off at first, but then by track 3 or 4 it started to all come together. This shit is crazy good.
Favourite track is Alpha Howl

I made a comment on the first page that I am getting some real strange Nickelback vibes from the vocals but honestly over time this has won me over. the instruments rip and the vocal performance despite being butt rocky is all around solid

Carry Me Home is the wife guy anthem of the year

The vocals don't even sucked, we've just been conditioned to hate bands with these kinds of vocals. Moon Tooth are proof that hard rock doesn't have to suck, most bands are just lazy. This band COULD be huge, and they should be. Their hooks are infectious and while the instrumentation is really impressive, it's not overly showy to the point of turning people away.

I think these guys are at their best when they linger around in a certain section of songs, which I guess I’d consider the prog side of their sound. They craft some beautiful arrangements and sometimes I wish they’d relish in it more occasionally. Example- the section at 1:30 in the conduit is pure bliss for me. I guess that’s the give and take of becoming more streamlined/focused. Relative to their earlier material
Shit, at this point I’ve grown to like Carry me home (especially the solo and on) and the conduit (the section after the first chorus and on) lol. Great record. For me it’s probably on par with their debut and a step above Crux
