This keeps getting better for me. Somehow all the songs are simultaneously stuck in my head.

honestly can't seem to connect with what you people think is so great about this thing

in theory I should be really diggin it as it ticks several boxes but I just find the vocal performance to be kinda mid and the mix is really subpar, there's is also nothing all that special about the instrumentation

Honestly can't think of one within the last 10+ years unless you count Enter Shikari's AFFOC as a core album.

To each their own ig. Me personally I can't turn this thing off and its been out for over a month already lol. Literally no album in the history of ever has stuck with me like this.

May sound silly considering they're an emocore revival act but idk dude, they just have the "it" factor and what I love about this style of music. They give me the Underoath fix I've been looking for that they themselves have not been able to achieve in a long time.

For me it's the sum of its parts. You said the vocals are mid but I disagree big time. I think the screams and how seamlessly Olli goes from singing to screaming and vise versa is great and something you rarely hear in post-hardcore anymore. There aren't specific singing sections and screaming sections necessarily - it all feels organic.

The song-writing is also great. I don't need dudes shredding like they're Protest the Hero to appreciate the instrumentation. These dudes have that "it" factor like Jay said and the songs don't all follow verse-chorus-verse-chorus-bridge-chorus structures so it makes them more interesting to listen to. Plus there are lots of little flairs like the "woo"/yelp/whatever you want to call it in the second verse of Push Rope or the way it has a new screaming portion over the intro chord progression as it leads into the second verse.

I don't have any issue with whiny vocals otherwise post-hardcore wouldn't be my favorite genre but I like that Olli doesn't have your traditional scene singing voice. He has fantastic hooks whether he's singing or screaming and the instruments have so many infectiously catchy sections too.

Yeah, Static Dress wears their influences on their sleeve but they don't sound like a rip-off band either and they're incredibly fresh in a sea of boring as hell Rise-core and Architects-core bands that have flooded the genre for the last decade. They just do a sound from my favorite era of music (2000-2007ish) really well and it feels good to have bands doing stuff like this again.

The only negative thing I have to say about the album is that the production is meh on a lot of the vocals but I grew up with shitty Kazaa, LimeWire, and YouTube rips of songs and band demos that were recorded with a SEGA Dreamcast microphone so I don't mind it that much. Not enough for it to ruin the album by any stretch.
