Loved this album, way more than the previous one. I think the autotune is to distort de voice, as the subject distorts the truth to its convenience (lies).

@XyphDryne
Yeah, knowing the German lyrics is actually a detriment on this one for most tracks.
Main problem for me are the mostly bland refrains, most songs meander along with no real satisfying climax this time like single Zeit especially.
Zick Zack may not be a huge banger but still sounds well crafted in all departments, the other midtempo songs sound like German Schlagermusik in parts and mostly fall flat lyrically. Plus it's actually funny.
There are far better songs for every theme or mood already in the back catalogue, that's the crux in the end and why I don't get all the praise.

Albums full of slappers. Rammstein does not miss.

Is it just me or is Armee der Tristen their best opener since Mein Herz Brennt? Flake's keyboards and composing is just sublime. I love the simple "Komm mit" call in the chorus as well.

Not their best record, but still pretty excellent, and better than Liebe. I think I like the previous one more than this.
I also don't mind the autotune on Lügen, I think it gives a very weird effect that makes the song sound even more twisted.
Most of the lyrics are pretty standard Rammstein fare tbh, but there are some layers on Dicke Titten actually. My favourite song is the title track (wonderful electronics and crescendo), Meine Tränen (I like Rammstein when they do this twisted dark storytelling thing), Lügen, and Schwarz.

Schwarz and Lugen are really growing on me. Love the opener too, agreed

Also, for the record: I first heard them when Mutter came out. I was 12. I know pretty much their entire discography inside out.

Old man ass cheeks indeed. They don't have the usual energy level.
Still very listenable ofc.

Listenable it is. Inoffensive, sometimes beautiful, sometimes bland. I had a good time for 40 minutes

If they open with Armee der Tristen when they tour again I'll be soooo happy!

Really conflicted with this one.
On the one hand, there's nothing offensively bad on here, and is a solid collection of songs in an absolute sense. The switch towards a more atmospheric sound is not bad per se, and continues the trend they started last album. Just compare the relentless Liebe Ist Fur Alle Da to Zeit and the self-titled and you'll see what I mean. The '80s inspired synths on Armee der Tristen work really well for example, and I found the autotune interesting despite most people hating it.
But here's the other hand. I subconsciously felt this with last album, but it became especially apparant with Zeit: at this point Rammstein sound uninspired and formulaic (by their own standard). Most melodies fall flat, and as noted multiple times above, Zeit is the first album where the lyrics are actually to the detriment of the music.
However, the biggest gripe I have with this album is the massive Deja-vu it invokes. Too many of the songs sound like they've just taken b-sides from older albums and slapped the on here. I dare you to listen to the following songs side by side:
Zeit & Ohne Dich/Fruhling in Paris
Schwartz & Nebel
Giftig & Sehnsucht
Zick Zack & Amerika
OK & Zeig Dich
Meine Tranen & Mutter/Puppe
Like, yeah, Rammstein have always been their own niche, but it never felt like they were just going through the motions like this album. That doesn't make it bad songs or a bad album, it just makes it forgettable compared the rest of their discography. That being said, theres some standout songs on here:
Armee der Tristen is moody and dope.
Zeit is beautiful and deserves to be mentioned with Rammsteins other ballads.
OK just makes me laugh really badly.
Angst is relentless, possible my favourite song of the album.
3.0 though this album gives off mad grower vibes, so lets see

Also Armee der Tristen sounds like Depeche Mode covering Hallomann

This whole album after first listening just made me cry.
It left me with a feeling that they made this masterpiece album to say goodbye. I feel like there are plenty of references to older songs everywhere.. And the Adieu feels like anthem, like the song that can be played during closing credits of an epic movie..
Also the video for Angst is one of the best of Rammstein.
On the other hand there seem to be some new electronic vibe in the album, like there are more electronics than before, which just gives even more power to the powerful guitars and drums on the album. Till vocals are powerful as always - that could be difficult to elevade
The tour will be for sure as amazing, hopefully not the last one though....
