There's definitely some filler and it wasn't immediately a hit on my first listen, but make sure you get all the way through in one listen if you're going to give it a chance because there's something about Black Mold that ties everything together. I think you'll like it.

it's definitely worth it to jam their previous records and then revisit this one; there's a lot of v satisyfing self references here (esp to cts)

Am I the only one who's getting some Beach Boys vibes from the vocal melodies? Or do I just hear them in the wind and trees?

No this is Beach boys and Weezer and spastic freak outs. I seem to be the only one but I feel like the alchemy is off here. Curly cute is the best and most complete song here. Black mold almost became something great but just doesn't feel complete to me.

Ordered a physical copy just so I can be constantly creeped out by that awesome artwork

I'm glad I'm not the only one who randomly got Beach Boys vibes from the melodies here

God...Curly Q is so gorgeous. The melody is soooo sublimely nostalgic. The guitar solo at the end is so poignant it's almost ridiculous. Might honestly be my SOTY at this point.

I was really hoping for a lot more songs like that on this album. There are plenty of great moments scattered across the album, but very few songs that do it for me start to finish.

Hollow, Curly Q, and Black Mold are the big 3 for me. I agree that the album isn't totally consistent, but it definitely gets stronger as it goes on. Baby Blue is also a gorgeous and underrated gem of a closer.

I remember seeing these guys at my college. one of the gigs they did the singer was sick because he said that he used half and half in his cereal instead of actual milk. a week or so ago I saw their name in lights at rock paradise in Boston :')
