This is their worst album, I don't want to spin this ever again (and I gave it 4 chances).
It sounds more like a jam session than an album and should have not be released as an LP. It's not even bad, it's just mediocre and bland given this band's genius compositional skills. One of the biggest disappointments I've ever experienced in the music realm.
This band's discog was so immaculate up to this point I want to forget this exists... I don't want this album to stain their legacy.

They actually wrote a fable for this album, too.

Great writing, gone to waste with a terrible angle and some truly mind boggling statements.
(Sorry I'm metaphysically incapable at the moment,might just be that)
Rock influences in a DSO album, now that got me curious, ngl

It's not classic rock though. It sounds like "mexican noir" rock. It made me chuckle.

Idk, this is still “good.” Good just happens to be incredibly disappointing for a band who has consistently delivered “great or damn-near-genre-defining” for the better part of their career.
Check Weigedood, Negativa, and Nocturnal Triumph. My favorite BM releases of the year so far.

@sonic
Tbh they haven't changed drastically but if you want something that is a much more stripped and regressive Deathspell this is definitely it. It's still enjoyable enough but it does feel awkward that a band like DsO kinda ride on simplicity here.
Although the drumming still rips as per usual.

This review seems to charge humanity with the crime of not knowing who they truly are. The pseudo intellectual ramblings you are using here, essentially flavorless word salad, shows that you don't know much about yourself either. You are a talented writer who doesn't need to rely on hyperbole to get your point across. You don't speak this way, so why are you writing like this? Reading this review didn't leave me with the impression that you're on a higher level of understanding then the rest of us; it left me feeling like you're an angsty teenager with a thesaurus who is struggling to assimilate.

Can we not level "talented writer" at people just because they have access to a dictionary if they can't pair it with a feel for sentence structure or the ability to develop a coherent thought?

no, we have reached the point where any and all people on this site who know how to fuckin parse correctly deserve everything we can throw at them. we should be donating our dictionaries - you go first

Johnny I’m so sorry but you know me
I’m just too scientifically minded, too caught up in sonic sensuality for anything beyond superficial notions.
I’m not even prepared to receive ancient wisdom, so I could possibly be amenable to any contemporary?
