BAND HISTORY
The veterans has returned! Kreator, one of the most proudest bands from Germany has returned to their original sound and mixed it with some refreshments from their ''experimental period''. The band did this thash assault called ''Enemy Of God'', this album is a follow-up their previous album ''Violent Revolution'' which was a some sort of ice-breaker in their musical career. The band started out very aggressive in the beginning of their career, then frontman Mille Petrozza started to experiment with their sound. It was not a succeeded move so the band started to reinvent their old sound and made this powerful comeback album. With loud and harsh aggressive vocals, furious guitar work, steady bass and rapid-firing drumming Kreator is about to show the true sound of thrash-metal.

THE CREW
The crew is the same as in their previous album and that will say:
Mille Petrozza - vocals and guitars
Sami Yli-Sirnio - guitars
Christian Geisler - bass
Jurgen ''Ventor'' Reil - drums

ALBUM INFORMATION
We jump on the next train and head towards the next station where the songs are waiting. The album goes out hard with the title-track Enemy Of God, a song that starts with classic fast shredding a la Kreator which makes a very catchy intro. The structure is classic thrash with intensive double bass drumming and it stays that way throughout the song, except for a calmer section that begins after two and a half minute. The guitar work sounds heavy and the riffing is played with accuracy, a catchy opener which will tell you how the album will sound like. The albums delivers more brutal thrashiness with Impossible Brutality, the song is starting with with serious and heavy drumbeats, some dual semi-soloing enters later and finally the song is on the move. The song goes out easy in a ''calm'' pace with slow triplet riffing and pounding drum beats, the gets an adrenaline boost and the pace is increased. Maybe not a standout song but it is sure good. Suicide Terrorist begins witha very catchy and experimental intro riffing, the song gets then serious with a very catchy and heavy song structure that forces you to the state of metal mind. Almost everything in this song is perfect and this is definitely one of the albums standout tracks. World Anarchy bashes on in the same spirit as the previous track, a fast and catchy intro made by the guitars. The song gets on a thrashing rampage with non-stop drumming and catchy guitar work. But what is this? The song gets a ballad pattern after about two and a half minutes with calm acoustics and light drumming, it ends pretty quick though after 30 seconds and the song makes a final boost of metal energy.

Dystopia kicks off with fast bursts of double bass drumming, the song has a more rhythmic pace with fast washing guitars. The chorus in this song is not the greatest though, Petrozza's loud screaming does not cut it. The song pattern changes a bit near the end and the guitars delivers some bursts of devastating guitars, the songs structure is though and bit hard to follow and it is hardly catchy. Voices Of The Dead starts with what I think is a calm bass intro, it is later followed by acoustic guitars and background soloing. The song changes pattern and the sound feels a bit power-metallish at the beginning, that is changed when aggressive vocals, shredding guitars and fast drum work takes place. The song is slightly catchy and has a good variety of musical elements, both from their past and their experimental sound. Murder Fantasies begins with a little more melodic intro but the drums are classic thrash though. The song has a quite calm feel in the beginning compared to what's about to come, the guitars gets more complexive in the riffage and the drums increases in pace. Excellent and melodic soloing and a catchy rhythm section and good heavy-metal drumming does the end to this great song. When Death Takes Its Dominion goes off easy with some semi-soloing at the start, then the thick guitars entering the stage with fast and catchy triplet shredding. Great verse pattern which has the catchiest moments, though the chorus in alsmost the opposite. Good song but if the pace was fast throughout the whole song it would've sounded much better.

One Evil Comes(A Million Follow) starts with an intro with more melodic tunes, catchy and fast shredding does the verse. Double bass drums and a slower pace does the chorus. The whole song feels quite catchy but maybe a bit bumpy during the verse, not a real standout song though. Dying Race Apocalypse starts with a gentle acoustic intro that actually touches you, it is very melodic and feels kind of sad. The intro is done and now the song gets more structure with distorted guitars and soloing, the song is pretty fast but the drumming is yet easy to digest. The song is though very catchy at many moments and I would say that this is a little of a standout song. Under A Total Blackened Sky starts with an intro with smells little black-metallish because of the slightly yell guitar work. Don't worry, the song gets addictively catchy and has a classic thrash formula. Fast and tecnical riffing and lots of catchy drum patterns, the song has a great structurer which is easy to follow and this is song is worth checking out. Time to end this with the last track called The Ancient Plague. The songs starts with a deppressing guitar soloing in a calm pace, the song is a bit atmospheric at the beginning but it gets a bit more serious later in the song. The song gets a bit heavier as it goes and the solos are pretty good, but you might get bored by this song as well.

Man what an album! Know that I have listen to so many forms of thrash-metal I can finally pick out the best of the bunch when I hear a new album or band. This album had everything from aggressive and energetic thrash, heavy and slower-paced songs to more melodic tunes. Almost every song was catchy to me and this is an album that will hang on to me for a very long time. This album is highly recommended to thrashers, Kreator fans and maybe heavy-metal people. I hope this was interesting to read and not to boring, this must have given some guidance and comments are welcome.

PROS
+ Excellent musicianship
+ The mix between melody and tharsh made a great sound
+ Very good lyrics
+ The material is pure thrash-metal in refined form
+ The original sound of aggression and speed makes this album a great comebask from the champions

CONS
- If the songs did have the calmer sections it would sounded much better in my opinion.

Fucking great album. Shows that thrash bands truely can make amazing comebacks. I enjoy it as much as their old stuff.

Puts St. Anger and even The System Has Failed to shame.

I'm glad you didn't give this a bad rating like a lot of people would. I don't care if the last half of the cd isn't thrash, that's my favorite half of the cd. Voices Of The Dead and Under A Total Blackened Sky are amazing. Good review. This Message Edited On 07.29.06

I only liked two songs. The rest was a snoozefest or too Gothenburg-ish

I listened to this album straight through this summer WAY to many times and I still love it. It's so diverse, and I feel it has one great qualaty over Reign In Blood, wich I love, less fillers and more diverse. RiB Still has a tiny edge IMO

Suicide Terrorist is probably my absolute fav-track on this album. Violent Revolution had more killer songs though, I started listen a few weeks back and it sounds even better than this album.

Btw, did you get my e-mails?

It depends, I would recommend this album and and ''Violent Revolution'' to begin with if you want an easy start. Or you could try ''Extreme Aggression'' and ''Coma Of Souls'' if you are looking for some aggressive and rawer thrash.

I tried Pleasure To Kill and disliked it, very weird production and vocals, can't get into that.

But this album is very neat and cleaned up. I think Enemy Of God may warrant more plays for me. I'm not the world's biggest Thrash fan obviously, but yeah.

This reminds me that I really need more Anthrax, dammit.
