Don’t want to judge this too harshly being new to the band and some others saying it’s a grower, but this really bored me on first listen just now. I’ll give it a few more chances to see if it grows.

it's soft indie pop with alt-country and slowcore inspiration.
Sounds like the most boney thing in the world lol

Yeah it does, but actually this album definitely aligns with a particular niche of bands with similar sounds and influences that I also don’t really like despite the way it would seem (examples that come to mind are Lightning Bug and Holy Motors, the latter of which I just noticed Jesper had in the recommended bands section; funny too that I see this band’s top song on Spotify is a cover of “Wicked Game”, which Holy Motors’ most popular song is essentially a rewrite of).
Like, it’s only country because of a mild twanginess and earthiness to the instrumental palette and it’s only dream pop because of vaguely pleasant female vocals that actually are just somewhat lacking in melody. They want to sound like Galaxie 500, Mazzy Star (who I don’t even actually like much either), maybe a bit of Cowboy Junkies but lack the vocal/melodic skills/genuinely grounded earthiness of those bands.
But like I said, I’m open to it growing.

I just let the fuzzy blanket of sound do its thing, i also don't mind the lazy/tired vocals since they work in favor of the atmosphere. But i get this might lack a bit of punch and 'earthiness' (whatever that is, lol)

I have this a couple more listens and it’s definitely ~nice~, my above comments were a bit harsh, it’s listenable and nice enough that I’ll probably drop a solid 3 on it, but the songwriting and melodies aren’t really clicking enough to justify more. Is Almanac really that much better to be worth trying?

Also, Mazzy Star not being in the Similar Bands section is wild

it's less one-note than this if that's your complaint, but a similar vibe. more alt-country than dream pop

comfy rev my Jespy, just started this and it's smooth so far - just waiting if my traditional "this ain't meaty enuff" alt-country take will come up

This is uhm alright i guess. Don’t know if it’s a 3 or a 3.5 just yet. Might be a grower tho. Everything is simple is by far my favorite song on this album. Admittedly, it is not my favorite Mazzy album…
