that's a reason to lower your rating, if anything

I say that as someone who will almost definitely play Elden Ring at some point.
The ratio of Souls-related content for something that isn't actually a gaming website is mildly exasperating, but then I guess that's how people who don't play Pokémon feel too?
I mean it has been mentioned in not one, but two reviews (almost simultaneously) definitely a sign that we may have an obsession on our hands + that sub-section in one of the 'Staff Wars' where staff were compared to Souls bosses, or whatever the hell it was. Lol

Also Steiner, ta for the kind words and for giving it a go.

demon whinging about shit he knows nothing about like he's actively trying to impersonate ars. gives me conniptions.
"definitely the enchanted knight - because, i'm a coward. and 100 physical shield protection"
blessings and fortune be with thee. started a new ds3 playthrough and gave this a jam in tandem; definitely a strong sync

I wish I could revisit this more often. It's tough since I only want to devote the time to it if I can hear the whole thing. My commute to work is like 8 minutes and I want to be able to pay attention to this whole thing from start to finish without any of my other adult responsibilities and blah blah getting in the way

It certainly is a record that requires full attention in one sitting. For me, that is not in my car either.

The sheer dynamic range makes it unsuitable for listening in a car.

this is basically the first 2 songs of blessed stretched out over 55 minutes. If you liked those, you'll like this.

This is melodramatic and overwrought imo, and the post metal bits are very mid.

It certainly has some decent ideas, but I'm not seeing what's so special about this either. Unless you're obliged to give anything with classically-influenced dynamics a decent score.
Also if anything they overdid the dynamism imo, the disparity between the climaxes and the ambient segments are so vast that it becomes a chore to sit through at times.

I think a lot people (myself included) put a lot of stock into a single piece of music that is nearly an hour long, rather than realize the piece for what it could possibly be (say for instance a 12 track album, each song being around 5 minutes). This notion alone garners more attention from a listener for whatever reason and so the rating and adoration reflects that though process. This is something I try to get away from whenever rating progressive albums, but seems to happen without much thought either way.
