Having only heard the 'classic trilogy' I'm still pretty excited to dive into this. It seems they may have aged well if the general consensus is to be believed.

The World Today has that classic Voivod post-punky swagger, it's delicious

Progressive thrash that isn't boring is a blessing. Not as good as The Wake, but that was a REALLY tough record to live up to.

Saw that somebody 1d this, looked at the ratings page to see who. Should've expected it from Rowhaus

He has Killing Technology at a 1.5 but he also has it on a list of his favorite thrash albums so interpret that however you want lol

This is supremely catchy for a Voivod album, like it.
Not sure yet if it's better than the last one.

great band, great album, very consistent band though some disagree, they are consistently weird

I was more just curious if it'd let me score it that low so early. I just don't get it. The vocals are atrocious and the songs don't feel cohesive at all. You make a very good point about KT tho. I must've enjoyed that album at some point many years ago.

Yeah the vox are kind of arse on this one unfortunately, will try and see past them and enjoy the guitar work, but from experience that might be difficult

I didnt care for the song Sleeves Off much.

Snake's vox are an acquired taste, can easily see how someone would find them grating.
I just feel like they're complement the instrumentation perfectly.

i think the main issue with this album is that a lot of the songs kinda do this needless d-beat sorta break as soon as you think it'll build on some cool progressive idea in a bridge or chorus. it's like they couldn't bring themselves to just chill out and let the song remain in the same groove and instead you get budget piggy riff no. 500. weirdly i think the wake and post society did not have this problem

Fire in the Sky is a pretty intense movie yeh

I'm trying so hard to like this band, but man the vocals just do not do it for me. I love the music, though. I've tried several albums from them, and it's the same feeling every time.

@madbutcher I thought that in the beginning but the album grows more diverse on repeated listens imo.
"it's like they couldn't bring themselves to just chill out and let the song remain in the same groove" > that restlessness is signature Voivod tho

eh it's not like the classic 3 in the way it does it though, it feels very uncreative by their standards and more "out of place" than restless

"Fire in the Sky is a pretty intense movie yeh"
I was just wondering if anyone was going to comment on this! I was a teenager when I saw it, but it really messed with my head. watched near the lake around lots of trees and could have sworn I see an orange glow in the sky shorty after the movie. just my imagination running wild I'm sure but the thought of being abducted was a truly terrifying moment, lol

Mongrain definitely leans on those weird/dissonant shrieky type riffs, but they are incorporated so tastefully it's hard to find fault with them.

I remember seeing Fire in the Sky as a kid. That scene fucked me up haha. I watched it again recently just to see how I felt about it as an adult - it's still a fucked up scene, because they used practical effects.
