@Demon I believe in you. This is your year.
@GroundKing I think I'm maybe at 20 from this year so I'm not exactly killing it either lol

I've hit fifteen so far this year. For me averaging about 10 a month is generally a decent amount, although some months I'm more invested in music exploration than others.

This is my 9th rated album this year -- I've definitely slowed down over time as I listen to podcasts more and more often, but it feels like an okay pace.

Also Consciousness Pt. 3 absolutely shreds -- it's self-indulgent wankery at every turn but with just enough sense of melody and dynamics to sound great. easy highlight for me so far

Album is currently streaming on Spotify and probably Apple Music, but really, does anyone still use that???
Spotify is literally the only thing I use to stream music anymore. Don't most people do the same??

These guys would be getting grade A in musicianship and somewhat of a D+ in songwriting.

Actually, this has their best songwriting since Core lol
Not that it comes any close to that album in quality

Actually, this has their worst songwriting since Core lol (aside from Katabsis and Arcihtecture)

I dunno, I'd argue spiritual migration has their worst songwriting

hard agree, not even Katabasis or Architecture have that great of songwriting tbh

Aware of being watched has genius songwriting.

That's the worst songwriting of their career in that song imo. An absolute mess from start to finish.

I've heard it enough times to the point where your perspective on their songwriting here is baffling.
You're biased towards the melodeath or tech riffs, and if they're not there you immediately assume the band died and there's nothing of value. Fair enough, you like what you like, but I can't hear any kind of mess in that song.

Most people made up their minds about their songwriting many albums ago though, so really this album won't be changing that (although it should).

I for one enjoy how the album weighs more heavily on prog and less on death metal.

I have no reference for their music but I'm not sure how more death metal helps with what they're going for here.

The prog/post-metal combo works wonders and feels absolutely seamless to me. And in that setting, for longer tracks to explore a lot of ground/ebb and flow is basically a given.

It has nothing to do with being melodeath or not. The structure of the song is poor, fails to gain momentum and doesn't make a lot of sense as a whole.
But yeah I'll leave it at that because I already explained myself at first page. It hurts because I used to be a huge fanboy as you know but we're obviously on different paths now. It was a beautiful time while it lasted.
