so taking what i said previously into account: it's melodically hideous - there's no real continuity songwriting wise to any of the progressions and sections. the synth pads used, the tones used, the vocal style... it's all dime a dozen to the point of it being so indistinct. this makes it a lot worse considering the theme - you wouldn't be able to remotely guess the theme of this album by sound alone. you wouldn't even be in the right ballpark. it's just poorly executed on a concept level. they could tell you that this album was lord of the rings themed and not change *anything* and you'd not question it.
but honestly the worst thing is how cheap it is. it's just a stylistic bastardisation and gimmick with no depth. you can argue i'm taking this too seriously - and tbh you're most certainly right - but it doesn't make me hate it any less. it's just everything wrong with this kind of music. cheap, devotionless, lazy and gimmicky. there's a few bands i don't really like in this scene but this really is bottom of the barrel.
