This doesn't sound anything like the mostly gloomy riffy bangers of III... ?

I agree with a lot of what's been said about this album. I found a lot of songs corny, yet hard to completely dislike. I've found something worth revisiting in just about every song, and even at the album's cringiest moments Ian's guitar playing is often interesting/enjoyable enough to listen to in its own right.
-The first three tracks are great. I wish they'd explored the experimentation of 'Forgiveness' a bit more.
-I found The Wolf incredibly generic at first, but the riff that first appears at 1:53 has really stuck with me after repeated listens.
-Reactor has major II vibes.
-Judged is this album's Surprise Surprise / Louder Than the DJ throwaway track.
-Hanging Out... is a less interesting Fallen Leaves, but it's far catchier than it has any business being.
-End of Me is fun. Kind of strange that Rivers Cuomo is the only feature Billy Talent has ever had. I like how anthemic the "I wanna get closer to you..." part is.
-One Less Problem has Dead Silence (album) vibes. Not very interesting instrumentally, but it might be the most pop-punk song they've released.
-For You is fairly unremarkable. I was hoping they'd close it out with another song in the vein of the opener.
My biggest issue with this release is that after 6 years we're only getting 10 songs. It also doesn't seem nearly as cohesive as any of their other releases. It plays much more like a collection of singles, which given it's drawn out release isn't too far off.

I love the 'WOOOAH YEEEEAAAWWW WOAAAH YEEEOOOHHH' backing vox on One Less Problem.
And yeah, Reactor is stuck in my head now.
Also Surprise Surprise was one of my favourites on Dead Silence.

They're never going to write another song as good and fun as the likes of "line and sinker", are they?

For sure a couple of slappers here but most of this is the worst kind of modern commercial rock

'which still makes for a great album because these guys slap.'
I agree they slap which is why there's 4 good songs here, but the rest is so bland it's painful.

Seeing them in april with Rise Against, I hope they do not include a lot of songs from this album to the setlist, wouldn't mind Forgiveness, Reckless Paradise and maybe even I Beg to Differ, but the rest is just meh

I've heard this twice and have a hard time coming back.

A few great songs at the start, but End of Me and Judged are straight up painful. The rest of the songs are pretty average.
