Good review! Refuge Cove is one of my favourite albums of all time. This is an excellent follow-up, although I definitely prefer the softer vibe of the first. But hey, it's a classic folk album with a theremin in it -- how can you not love it!?

I only have two issues with this, which are (1) consistency - there are clear highlights but also others that I'd never have to revisit, and (2) her voice doesn't work well alone or in a bare environment, it needs to be accented by fuller-sounding instrumentation (esp the pastoral pianos/strings). Overall this is quite enjoyable though, at least 2-3 of these songs are going on my Q1 playlist.

Yeah basically. Ditch the sparse arrangements tell her to entertain me rather than to steal my soul and I'll get more out of this. When she hits it's incredibly unique and powerful though.
I appreciate you turning me on to this Mathias. Good to see you starting the year off writing, and I'm going to tell you again to check out Anna Leone if you didn't already.

holy shit this is amazing. got that real spiritual folk sound, like she's a witch who lives in the mountains or somethin. yeah that's how I'm describing it. such a powerful and unique vocalist. already confident this will be one of my fav folk releases this year, it just hits right.
early favorites are Heaven, Up in Flames, Raglan

ps - anyone who likes Raglan, go check out To A Woman by Lavender Country. Cool old folk song from the 70s, very similar. If anything, Raglan sounds like it was made in the 70s. REALLY captured the feel in those guitars and the production.

Same. Really digging this

Pitchfork reviewed this one and has basically the opposite reaction as most of the consensus here. They preferred the stripped back tracks, which I think is interesting. I can't get enough of Raglan and the title track

Up In Flames, Raglan, and This Day In May are probably my top three at this point

saw her open for The Veils and was floored tbh. you can always tell when a singer understands their voice and isn't afraid of it
