Traced in Air is more sowing than Focus imo
I also don´t really vibe too much with Focus but recognize its value in the history of death

eurgh, better than that last album, but still not good..
I only listened to this once but it was quite boring to me.

Aurora is incredible and the closing track has such a big finish. I never thought I would ever be a fan of this band after several tries but here we are. Now that I have the taste for them I am excited to check out Traced in this new light and go back to Focus for another attempt.

Focus shits all over this and Traced.
Be sure to check the original Traced, the remaster is pure shite and a literal downgrade (it removed the harsh vocals and a lot of character for a slightly crispier sound).

late but i'd also recommend checking the traced remix specifically. the growls are gone but they were also completely unnecessary

hard disagree, the new traced sounds empty and incomplete

I liked the growls in the og Traced mix. I never really thought Traced needed a remix

I always thought the growls were amateur and unnecessary, it was actually my main reason for thinking the band was overrated. I was always like "how can this be so acclaimed when the dude can't even properly harsh vocal?" Maybe I will change my mind now that I am much more open to the message of this band

Update: Relistening to Traced remix right now and actually I think I prefer the remix. Still don’t mind the growls if the og though

the mix is one of the most significant improvements i've heard so it's more that the absence of subpar shoehorned dm vox is a small bonus

Actually not for the first time. I wasn’t a big fan of this on the first few spins but I will revisit it.

Nothing shits over Traced in Air, and I mean the OG version, give me those subpar shoehorned growls any day over not having any. Super glad they added something similar on here in a couple of spots. This is also the logical continuation of their TiA sound more than anything they've done post-2008 and baby I'm all here for it, and it is the best piece of Cynic music after Traced. The record is super nice I still can't believe Masvidal went and released an album not even a year after Malone's suicide and what's more surprising than the release is that it's this GOOD

Trace OG mix is better [2]
I listened to the remix forever before checking the original and it was a massive improvement to my ears

We all deal with loss ("everything is flux") in different ways. The process of recognizing that can allow for many things, including a feeling of stark alienation.
Really starting to lean in to Paul's choices of being so direct with his - easily labeled "goofy" - thematic/lyrical choices to represent the energy of the record.
Clearly, the album is growing hard - it's pretty much all i've spun for 5 days now, don't mind me...lol

All Cynic albums have a tendency to grow over time
