YFM was an instant classic to me as well

Oh yeah Jane took ageeeeeees, hated it at first.
And ultimately the hype I had built up in my head for NH was absolutely satisfied, I just can’t realistically put it amongst their best releases now, not after all this time. It’s still a great album and unfairly maligned though.

| |
NH is not necessarily among their best but still great as it is

Having devoured tons of "beauty and the beast" gothic/doom/death metal in the '90s and beyond, this album sounds so analogous sometimes, it's not even funny.

I agree that YFM is beyond amazing and nothing less than a 5/5 but damn Jane opened a whole world to me... hearing that shit for the first time was like being dragged down to hell and back to life, what an experience. It's so perfect

Jane will always be my favorite.
I remember when I joined this site I was a massive Tool fan, still like em but they’ve grown off me a lot
Anyways, I see the best albums of the 2000’s staff list and was sure Lateralus would be number one because that album was perfect for me then, and then I see this bullshit at number one? Checked it out and I gotta say Concubine legitimately changed my taste in music.

I had a similar experience, tho my love for Tool never quite faded out and I'm still a massive prog fan, Converge and TDEP really opened my mind

Yep. Converge and Dillinger were my gateway into more extreme and experimental styles of music.
I got into Dillinger literally one week after they were in my city for their One of Us Is the Killer tour. Caught them for Dissociation but I’m still pissed I only got to see them once

Damn this owns
Kinda put me off the first time but I think I was still clinging onto old moments, waiting for some zany Dark Horse-esque guitar lick that never came.
Chelsea's vocals are alluring yet haunting and work beautifully in conjunction with Jacob's feral shrieks

Just realised I'm currently sitting on 11 x 4/5 LPs for this year, this may not make the cut for my ballot which is unfortunate. Still deciding.

I wonder if she will come back with her heaviest album now after having done an acoustic album and then this

Hiss Spun was already damn heavy by her standards so we’ll see

She did Diana and now this so That’s what I’m hoping for. I liked Birth of Violence, but her folksy stuff was never what drew me to her. Abyss and Hiss Spun are incredible. I love Pain is Beauty too just in a different way.
