"Despite this, there’s a light hiccup in the story-telling and some of the lyrics border the edge of a fondue recipe"
getting in those cooking references I see, haha. nicely done and happy 400th!!
"Can anyone recommend good stuff like this outside the similar bands list?"
just off the top of my head you might dig Elderwind - The Colder the Night

There's a wonderful spectrum between blackened dungeon synth and atmospheric folk metal that goes something like Summoning, Forlorn Citadel, Caladan Brood, Moongates Guardian, Elderwind, Belore, Celtefog, Eldamar, Gallowbraid, Cân Bardd, Dwarrowdelf, Sojourner, (Dzö-nga?), Vvilderness, Skyforest, Saor, and I love every band on that line.
Obv there are dozens of others so recs welcome.

awesome, hope you dig the journey! I love the immersive landscapes of those bands and the stories in their albums. a very elemental, introspective, and "old soul" feeling to the music.

dude, Nelecc is great. I knew Nelson from Krummholz so The Stars was a very pleasant surprise. excited to hear that Scottish one.

For sure Nelecc. The Stars is a great album, very unusual sound and prod and different flavor of atmospheric bm

More of the same, but not a bad thing. Still as pleasant as dipping your nuts in cold tea on a hot summer day.

I think I like this better than the debut but not a much as The Last Rain... that one had more memorable melodies imo but maybe this one will grow
