I think he suited what they were doing back then- a song like "Fightboat" is just so distant from the sounds of this record. But that's what's so great about this band's discog on the whole

They occasionally still get it right, but they've definitely abandoned their indie roots for mainstream pop and in doing so have alienated many serious music fans.

I don’t care what pitchfork says yet I still can’t help checking what they give in album I love. It’s brain poison, I’ll admit it.

But I don’t get their shift bc I seriously doubt mainstream pop and hip hop fans are actually reading them so all they really did was dump their core audience for nothing

I have one more thing to say, it’s absolutely insane to me that this is good but apparently recorded remotely. Would’ve never thought a record could be this great recorded that way

Anyone who hasn’t been sold on Always Foreign needs to check out the live studio performances that were put up for some of the songs, they’re fantastic

That record being great though is a totally separate thought from Illusory Walls blowing it out of the water

I think this is a rare band that got better with every album. Don't get the hate for always foreign.
