"He uses homosexuality as shock value for publicity. Is he really gay? Idk, sure. But just HOW gay he is and the spectacle of it all should be offensive to gay men who just wanna be gay and be accepted like everyone else."

I think the fact that he's doing exactly what straight pop stars have been consistently doing since Madonna in the 80s and its STILL "shocking people" shows it needs to be done because a gay man doing what's socially acceptable for straight people shouldn't be shocking

-a gay man

As if male pop stars aren't constantly talking about banging a ton of women and having multiple women all over them at once. Please.

Refreshing album not just because of the whole marketing behind but also because it is just fun and has personality. Not a fan of this stuff but I enjoyed this.

What do you think about highly sexual songs by female pop stars (Anaconda by Nick Minaj, WAP by Cardi B) etc? And if you're not against those, why are Lil Nas X's songs different?

Eh, I guess as long as you're holding Lil Nas X to the same standard as straight pop stars, I have no qualm with that opinion

"Could be? Whether I am or not doesn't change anything really. And save your "are you trying to speak for gay people" speech or whatever. Also spare me the "uR A hOmopHoBe" lecture "

kinda just figured a 5s dump would've done the trick

Great read man, you intertwined very well personal aspects, zeitgeist analysis (yay!), and where the record succeeds and fails musically. Took you a long time, but was worth it.

It’s just the same old vocoded voice slapped over the same old beat with absolutely no essence of soul.
There’s no craft, no guile.
It’s paint by numbers to colour in a turd.

To be fair Lil Nas X's actual music is generic and nothing special

It's more about what he represents culturally and his musical videos
