Any opinions on the intro to Money Talks? I definitely like it but it seems like the kind of thing that would draw differing takes.

early listens it broke the flow a bit too much for me - I felt there was a lot going on, but now I know the album well I like the intro
'how many golfers would you guess have perished in these dunes?'

Sort of the same here...at first I had trouble deciphering some of the lines but after a few listens they became clearer. The golfers part stuck out to me too, lol.

Chorus from the opener is stuck in my head for days.
Really liking this album.

What is freedom, he thought?
Is it to be empty of desire?
---Reads so pretentious when typing it out, but the delivery is so good

That summarizes a good bit of this I think. Sung in any other way, most of these lyrics would miss the mark. Ian has a knack for delivering just the right tone that each song calls for.

Yeah, I think that's right, at least for a fair bit of this.
I've been listening to this album so much, may eventually be a 5 for me. I've been holding off on that since there's five or six songs here which I feel are noticeably better than the others (even though I like them all), but this has such a distinct style and great replay value.

Still quite a respectable score, especially for a new Americana-ish album on Sputnik!
Very quotable album, giving this my first listen in a few days right now

The opener rules, the rest isn't as stunning but still

I appreciate your interest but you're slightly trippin'.
The only acceptable tracks that could be cited as even *moderately* underwhelming are All the Way Down (huge grower once you read the lyrics), Silverfish (only an acceptable answer on the 1st-2nd spin), Celebrity X, and Blow Him Apart (also a grower). The rest is gold in folk form (and so are 3 of the 4 songs I listed because they just need time to grow). So basically, this has one less than excellent song.

All the Way Down was my other fave on first listen, I've forgotten my other preferences but time will tell (;

Ok I misperceived your praise of the opener as being underwhelmed by the rest but you may proceed ;-)
