^ yeah I have to agree, Dustin sounded great when I saw them in 2019.

this is way better than Palms - still not sure what I think overall, but I had a good time the first listen

Don't notice any deficits in Dustin's harsh vox in the studio either. All the harsher vocals sound great here imo.

Probably their best album since Vheissu.

i gotta say hearing dustin's harsh vocals on summer set fire was cathartic
feels like he's been holding back for a long time

He mentioned in an interview that he struggled with some of the vocals but didn't have enough time to redo them, so I'm sure he's aware that those parts are weak.

@Sowing you still here? I'm halfway through, and it's decent enough - but is Unitive/East like Cop Syrup on the last Biffy LP? Because if so, I'm game and I'm not... I'd love to be just swept up in all of this, which hasn't happened yet, but I'm holding fast hope...

Not rating the album yet, but really strong first impression. Northern Lights and Dandelion Wine might be two of the best Thrice songs ever written. Can’t get past Buried in the Sun though…sticks out like a sore thumb. Decent track but doesn’t feel like it belongs in the album. Feels more like a tbeitbn b side.

Overall, I enjoyed this much more than Palms. Only song that is skipable is Buried in the Sun, but everything else is really solid! Dandelion Wine, Summer Set Fire to the Rain, and Still life are my favorites so far. Torn between a 4 and 4.5

First listen yielded some real nice results. Some surprising throwback moments to Artist/Vheissu rawness mixed with everything since then. About to do listen #2 and then some.

Still Life sounds like if Major/Minor and Vheissu met at a bar and had a baby. AKA, I really like it

After more listens, The Dreamer is the weakest for me so far. So many sprinkles of Vheissu and Alchemy Index here.

I'm finding the album very disjointed, as in here's 10 different sounds that we collectively like as a band (definite Radiohead, Isis and some proggy elements) rather than a cohesive album. There's some great experimentation and tracks on here (Color of the Sky, Still Life, Dandelion Wine) but it lacks the tightness that made an album like Beggars and Vheissu so memorable imo
Not what I was necessarily expecting, both in a good and not so good way, but at least there's nothing as egregious as Hold Up A Light to contend with

Northern Lights just hits all the right spots. They mixed the keys with the rest of the instruments perfectly... Damn, it works so well.
And after hearing it for the third time, Summer Set Fire to the Rain is like Image of the Invisible PT.2 for my ears with the album feeling almost like a companion album to Vheissu.
