Scavengers definitely grew on me a ton, it's a great second track.

One thing that kind of weirds me out about this album is the lack of energy in the second half. Practically every song is a mid-tempo (or just down tempo) sprawling number. After Dandelion Wine I was thinking "Okay maybe they'll do something different than their last few albums and close this out with something more energetic." Yeah, that definitely doesn't happen. And there's some really good songs in there but in terms of album flow it's kind of odd.

these are still, for the most part, very straightforward songs, they're just executed better than Palms. The lyrics are less moronic (though there are still some clunkers), the songs feel more dynamic, the choruses actually soar a bit. Scavengers is everything that Palms wished it could have been.

that said it's kinda feeling like a 3.8

Oh, I agree for sure @Letsgofishing with the heavy element some of these tracks breathe. I don't want them to make an all out aggressive record, I feel their music shines more when they're more aggressive. This one will definitely grow on me!

Yeah Dustin's lyrics are so, so much better on this than they've been for a while. Buried in the Sun is the only one that makes me roll my eyes like I did during the majority of Palms. I'm fine with political lyrics but when you're just explicitly talking about the DoD and CIA BY NAME I just can't... There are far more artful ways to get the same message across.

“The Dreamer” is handily my least fave here, feels half-baked. “Buried in the Sun” has those lol lyrics but it bangs hard musically and that chorus is lovely. I mostly wish it were in a different spot of the tracklist, it’s kinda awkward immediately preceding “Northern Lights”

but that’s all the critique I’ve got for this tbh

I guess I'm the only person here that enjoys "The Dreamer". I admit it gets a bit redundant towards the end but the vocals never bothered me at all.

These guys couldve stayed retired after M/M and would've been undisputed legends. The fact theyre still producing LPs so consistently now is just super impressive. Feels like theyre playing with house money at this point. Excited to check this

@kingjulian I agree with Buried in the Suns lyrics. I still like the song but really didn’t wanna mention it in my review because of the politics. Don’t need people throwing political opinions on here left and right if I did.

Not a huge Thrice guy, but this is very solid. A few clunky/cringey lyrics here and there but no other big complaints.

Buried in the Sun is one of the worst songs they ever wrote, ugh.

Apart from that it's a really solid album, even if the song structures are almost the same on all the songs with the building and the mini climax + abrupt ends

Well then they never would have wrote Beggars and Major/Minor

Which is completely fine because neither of those are very good. I mean ideally they could have stopped after artist but I have some nostalgic attachment to vheissu and some alchemy index songs

Buried in the Sun is really good musically, that main riff sounds like something that would be on the Air EP and Ed's bass work is tasty. Dustin just makes some very unfortunate vocal/lyrical decisions.

Someone tell Dustin that next time he wants to do those weird yelling spoken word parts, he should just scream instead.

Anthology alone made Major/Minor worth it

Buried in the Sun is not as terrible as Sputnik is making it out to be but it's also not great.

I bet Dustin doesn't scream because he can't anymore and just doesn't want to admit it

Dustin hasn't been able to scream since Fire. which is fine, since his singing voice is lovely.

I'm almost certain at some point on Carry The Fire or the Patreon exclusives he's plainly admitted he doesn't want to full-on scream anymore, it's not like he's hiding it really

that said, Ed can still fuckin Y E L L and imo he should just take care of some parts
