Color of the Sky is fantastic. Buried in the Sun has some very questionable choices in the lyrical/vocal department but musically it slaps.

I think the only songs here that I outright dislike are The Dreamer and Robot Soft Exorcism. Though I’m not as hot on Northern Lights as some are.

Anyway, I have no fucking clue how anyone could ever find this more boring than Palms lol

Glad to see some others love the opener. It’s one of my faves too.

Dreamer's chorus is the least melodic thing I've ever heard.

I'll have to listen more but my first impression is this is way better than Palms but not quite as immediate as TBEITBN. Standouts for me are The Color of the Sky, Still Life, Dandelion Wine and Unitive / East.

The best Thrice in the last decade is Sword in Mouth, Fire Eyes by Norma Jean.

This is aggressively average.

The intro track is better than anything they did on Palms. Its not that Palms is bad, it is just very boring.

The bass sounds amazing here, so many little things going on in the background with well thought out ideas and that begs to listen to this with headphones.

As good as this record sounds, I really wish they would revisit their heavier roots. I'm not a fan dismissing anything else they do other than heavy because that just isn't fair to them. So many bands I like have went back, just wish Thrice would here and there.

Scavengers, Northern Lights and Still Life are the very best songs this band has released in a decade. Dandelion Wine might find its way on that list soon.

A lot of the experimentation on this feels clunky and forced to me though. There's a handful of songs here (Buried in the Sun, Summer Set Fire, The Dreamer) that are on the verge of being pretty bad but just find a way to barely work.

The record is great! Don't get the hate fro Dreamer, I think it's really nice. Still Life kinda drags too long in my opinion but it starts to grow on me.

Anyway the best Thrice since Beggars I think, on par with Major/Minor.

Really curious what's gonna be on the second part.

I don't know, Fearlessflyer. One of my very favorite aspects of this record is how dark and gritty the instrumentation is while also feeling intoxicatingly airy. There's some real sharp production work on this, and I think a lot of it hits heavy in a pretty clever and intelligent manner.

I wasn't crazy about the singles but they actually fit really well in the flow of the album

^Exactly right. After 7 listens I can safely say I love all of the songs here. "Color of the Sky" is awesome but it took a while to grow on me. "Buried in the Sun" might be my least favorite other than the closer but it is very catchy. I found myself singing the chorus while making chores earlier. All in all my favorite post-Beggars Thrice album and it's even more exciting there's another on the way.

I've listened through 2x at this point, and it's a really solid effort. Buried in the Sun and The Dreamer are basically throw away tracks due to the poor delivery and awful lyrics, but the other 8 tracks really stand on their own and I like the more alternative sound they went with. It'll grow on me more too, I'm sure.
