I liked Palms a lot. I don't fully understand the hate either outside of a couple bad songs.
Edit: The Color of the Sky kind of just started and ended I dunno. 'Scavengers' is already way better.

I certainly don't hate Palms. It's just a very mixed bag of an album. It has some cringe, and some borderline cringe, but it also has some tracks that mean a lot to me. When I edit the tracklist to boot some of the duds, and integrate tracks from Deeper Wells, it results in a solid listen.

The screams in Buried in the Sun follow the exact same vocal cadence as A Branch in the River lmao
Edit: love how the song ended though, and Northern Lights is off to a very intriguing start...
Edit #2: Northern Lights was pretty good. Summer Set Fire to the Rain just began and the guitars are kind of generic but I like Dustin's enthusiasm

OK I was just about to write this off as boring but Still Life pulled me back in. What a great song.
I can tell this album is going to take a few spins.

Yeah my initial rating was based on 1,5 listen (yeah I know sue me) but it is turning out better and better with each listen

Dreamer and Robot were both decent but forgettable. This is pretty damn disappointing so far tbh but I know better than to write this off so soon. I don't think I've loved a Thrice album on first listen since The Alchemy Index lol.
Edit: Wow didn't see that crescendo coming halfway through Dandelion Wine. That's the kind of intensity I was hoping for. And the ending is even better. Finally.
Edit #2: Unitive/East is jaw-dropping. Glad this gave me such an obvious reason to return. I'm going to be spinning this several times for sure.

Half way through and this is a vast improvement over Palms

This is great. I'm already interested in what Horizon/West will be.

Northern Lights sounds like Thrice doing their best Reign of Kindo impression and I am shocked at how well it works, cringe lyrics and all

also if the next one really is called Horizons/West, it is going to get a lot of accidental attention from people looking for Horizon Forbidden West

amazed people are saying “Color of the Sky” isn’t grabbing them. On first listen it was the first and only thing to make me think “all-time great Thrice track” (though I’m sure others will eventually contend with re-listens and overall I enjoyed this a lot)

Wish I could forget Buried in the Sun
