I wish I liked it more. Just not my jam but can see why people would love it.
Awesome review

Some bands need more of a commercial sheen
This is one, album is so much better than the already sporadically great previous album

This would top Time & Space for me if it had like.... 5% more edge to it. Still a great album though

As far as the experimental stuff here underwater boi is way more enjoyable than alien. I really hate that that song is right in the middle of the album.

Best album ever probably

Alien is pretty good, Dance Off to No Surprise is a slightly weaker stretch, biggest dip I could find here

thank you based Dedex
love the summary too

I would normally find this kind of thing annoying, but this is a rare record that is fun throughout and never really gets on my nerves. Feeling like a 4 - tons of great moments, but also a few that don't quite hold up against the rest.

The three classics for me here are 'Blackout', 'Don't Play' and 'Fly Again'...with 'Holiday' dangerously close to joining them.

I gotta give top picks to Mystery and Holiday

'Mystery' is the perfect controlled opener to lead to the double servings of riffmania in the next two tunes.
'Holiday' is just a lot of fun and you'd have to be incredibly grumpy and/or jaded with life to not appreciate that one.

I think the piano coming in seamlessly on the chorus of 'Don't Play' after that orgasmic riff was when I realised without having listened to the rest of the album that this would be a perfect progression from the 'Time and Space' and superior

A split with these guys and Torche would be a match made in heaven

Honestly this band are one of the most 'effortless groove' rock bands since Nirvana - probably the band they most remind me of DESPITE not being the same genre at all really.
Guitar sound is close a lot of the time is the closest match, other than the 'magic touch' and groove.
Can point and say 'simple ingredients!' but give 'Holiday' to a hundred pop punk bands and watch them each massacre it into a lumpen piece of saccharine tat with no swag.
Band just have it.

I watch that Turnstile Love Connection video probably once a day. The first couple minutes of Holiday with the vocalist's dancing puts me in a good mood every time.

Fun album, even if I don't love it as much as most seem to.
Great review Dedex, taking one for the team!
