this is weird in that it banishes all Bad Luck's shaky aspects from memory but also feels like it misses a little of the extravagance and personal dimension that made (some of) that record so special?? gonna have to jam more, still getting used to Trophy Scars play it slick and succinct

yup, Bad Luck is still my favorite. So happy I got that beautiful vinyl with alternate artwork and splatter red/black. REALLY need the lyrics to this bad boy

@wwf - yeah I swear Mother sounds better after being mixed and mastered. They got a famous mixer/masterer to do the album, but the name escapes me.

This could easily be album of the year. Unless All Human miraculously drops their new album this year.

YO CORNEY! You gave most of their albums a 4, but this a 2.5? Elaborate or face the wrath of the SUPER SNAKE

I'm halfway through this and it's just sounding like a far less engaging spin on Holy Vacants, both musically and with its fairly rote and cliche concept as opposed to HV's very clever one

mix is also super weird, instruments sound like they're fighting their way out of wet paper bags, and the sub-EP runtime is a kick in the gut after 7 goddamn years

wish I was on the inside of whatever y'all are hearing here but I just am not

this doesn't seem to have any new tricks up its sleeve apart from replacing that album's fun religious-horror-as-trojan-horse-for-relationships bit for a sub-Tarantino yeehaw I'm killin muh famly schtick

honestly not sure what I'm missing, like the closer literally sounds unfinished and Father Part II was a decent redo of the immensely superior Sad Stanley

this and bad luck are p much at opposite ends of the band's blues-era spectrum, wouldn't say it's necessarily better but there are p clear reasons why you'd prefer one over the other

rowan's take misses an enjoyable proportion of what's going on here but that's understandable for a snap-take halfway through a first listen lmao

Discourse is hungry and demanding and impatient; if you don't have an opinion on the thing right this moment, you're already too late yada yada But good art needs time.
