@Dewi do you really not like ''The Parchment''? I find it to be a strong song in the album, with the guitar/vocals duo, the mid-eastern vibes and the general atmosphere. Imagine the intro without a bass, but with some orchestra. That would have been wild.

I've only gave one run to the album myth, and I had a headache since this morning so I was pretty much suffering toward the end and The Parchment didn't make it any easier ;)

It's just really bad. Bad production, bad singing, Songs are worse copies of other not so great tracks from their last albums.

@Dewi Understandable, have a nice day

"Bad production"
Shirley is not a genius, agree, but it's not as terrible as you guys make it to be.
"Bad singing"
Jesuschrist the man has beaten throat cancer and covid in his 60s, let's see the whole picture here. And even beyond that, he still sounds great (it would sound better if Shirley wouldn't have sunk his vocal tracks in the mix)
"Songs are worse copies..."
Harris has been in control with firm grip since Bruce returned for BNW and I believe this is one of the consequences of that deal. Gotta be thankful he still allows for Adrian, Gers or Bruce to co-write at times (cause they are all better songwriters than him).

Didn't know there were 4channers that listened to this album. Unless they didn't and they're just trashing on it because why not.

Steve has written literally all of their classic stuff though

Bruce/Adrian duo is still giving the gifts, Gers's ideas are all memorable and fun, can't go wrong with him, and Harris is a genius agreed, if only he would ditch all the repetitiveness and ''acoustic intro/outro'' that really bring the songs down. His writting can be too linear.

I´m not a big fan of their progressive style. The book of souls took me a while to absorve, so im not full confident for this one. Ill give it a 3 for now.

Strong album from the lads. Much better than Book of Souls which I couldn't get into at all. Early favourites are The Time Machine, Death of the Celts, The Parchment and Hell on Earth. Could be a 4.0 or more in time

Ditto to this review basically. Bruce's verses kind of meander and yeah he's not in his thirties anymore - but some of these bread and butter choruses rival (in part) their eighties work.

Wow, I was blown away by how underwhelming this was. I don't think there was a single song on here I would listen to again. As a die-hard Maiden fan it kills me to say this, but this record sucked HARD.

"Steve has written literally all of their classic stuff though"
Indeed he has. Should have clarified, I was referring to the post BNW recordings.
I mean even here, the man has shoved 30 minutes of stuff written solely by himself to close the album, it's crazy.

Scratch that, I DO like Hell on Earth. That outro riff is pretty nice.

I love the Parchment. Great epic vibe, eastern scales, and the last three minutes they all speed up and has some ''UP THE BLOODY IRONS!'' moments

Just finished Side 1. Lots of plagiarism abounds. I'll have to give it repeated listens, but it doesn't have the magic of Brave New World, A Matter of Life & Death and Final Frontier as of now. It's obviously more irritating given they're recycling ideas left, right and centre.

“ Maiden is just standard Heavy Metal. Nothing special.”
Imagine having this opinion.

totally. i was actually expecting the worst, but it's decent.
"some of these bread and butter choruses rival (in part) their eighties work."
definitely noc.

I am super worried about giving this a spin. The single they pumped out was so middling and I'm not sure I can take the same lack of inspiration for the, what, 7 hours this record lasts? But I know I'll give it a go anyhow. It's just a pity they are cornering themselves into that "super epic 12 minute history book retelling" style... they did it in under 4 minutes with The Trooper.

If you want a real hot take, then The X Factor was the last innovative Maiden album.
