Not a big John Mayer guy to begin with but this is way too much easy listening even for me. Reminds me in a way of the vanilla christian rock I was subjected to as a kid. That's not to say I hate it, but this is the most indifferent I've been to an album in a while lol.

@Sowing: It always amazes me how unique every listener's palette is. Considering the type and amount of artists that you've spotlighted on here and that I've gone on to love I'm surprised that Mayer does little for you.

Call it a personal quirk, I just don't get his appeal. Everything about him reeks of middle aged churning-this-shit-out for 40-70 yr old moms and dads to play while they drive their kids to the shore...core. I dunno, I'm probably being overly harsh haha.

Haha, the fact that he's a complete eejit seems to put a lot of people off. He walks a fine line between completely cringe disposable heart throb and blues virtuoso. I was repelled by him initially but once I gave him the benefit of the doubt I turned into a complete fanboy.

@johnny I think what he's getting at is that album 8 being a peak is the exception rather than the rule, which is sorta true ig? But yeah imo it would have prob been better to say "You’d be hard pressed to point to any performer’s 20th year since their debut album as their peak" or something to that effect, since most of the artists you listed are/were prolific enough to still be sort of in the first leg of their career by album 8, unlike mayer

like 20 years out from their debuts the Beach Boys, Pink Floyd, the Cure, & Rush were all hitting career low-points (and it looks like Boris kinda was too tbh), and The Beatles, Fugazi, Thursday and Unwound had all broken up
